If you never use it on laptop battery only
there is a good chance that the internal
circuitry will disconnect the charger completely when the battery
reaches
full charge state, therefore it could be regarded as being "stored
fully-charged in the laptop". Several users have said that
their batteries
last for a very long time if the laptop is continuously left
on charge,
whether in use or not.
Problems would seem to arise more often when the laptop is
used on battery
one minute and on AC mains the next, with varying lengths
of
charge/discharge cycles.
Compaq
recommend taking the battery out in a half-charged state to
store,
with periodic charges to recompense for the inevitable loss
of charge during
storage. They also insist that the battery should be inserted
to the laptop
now and again and subjected to a full charge and discharge
cycle about once
every six weeks to " calibrate" the internal circuitry.
Regrettably, li-ion technology seems to be something of
a mystery even to
the manufacturers, who may, however, know a lot more than
they admit to
about battery care. After all, they benefit considerably from
the number of
dud batteries and the replacement thereof, so why should they
tell you how
to best treat your battery?
If you take the battery out of the laptop and leave it out
whilst you use
the laptop off the mains, it may do the battery
no harm.
